Dear PCA Family,
We have so much to be grateful for at Plymouth Christian! One of the blessings we experience at PCA is the ability to strive together toward the common goal of pointing our young people to Christ. Whether it be online through our new Eagles at Home platform or safely in the classrooms with our incredible teaching staff, God is moving in our school community! As we head into the 2nd quarter of the 2020-2021 school year, we acknowledge that He has given us all that we need to live as His ambassadors, carrying hope into a dark world. This year’s journey has taught me many things, but I am reminded each day that our loving Father has never left us alone, trying to figure things out. He has given us light for our next step, discernment among many voices, and the strength to be salt and light in our community. Thank you, PCA family, for extending mercy, showing kindness, and acting in ways that build bridges and bind us together. There is great strength in unity, and we most reflect His image when we are sharing God’s love and supporting one another. Ecclesiastes 4:12 proves true over and over again that when we stand together, we are stronger. “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” Let’s continue to rely on Him, pray for each other, and thrive together for His glory. May the Lord continue to shine on us!
Educating for Eternity,
Caryn Huntsman

ALL SCHOOL NEWS

PCA Teacher Superhero Day
Teachers are people who we can proudly tell our students, “That’s someone you want to be like when you grow up!” Teachers are always teaching–24/7, 365 days a year. We call them superheroes. They don’t actually have superpowers, but take a walk down any PCA hallway and you see they have more in common with Spider-Man than you would think. They have genius-level intellect, superb abilities to invent and create, superhuman strength and stamina, speed, durability, and agility, with the innate ability to adapt to difficult circumstances.
Teachers are true superheroes and that’s why we’re excited to honor our PCA teachers next Thursday, October 29th, for Teacher Superhero Day! You may see a cape or two, a masked man, or a superwoman walking into the building – but underneath it all, they have embraced one of the most challenging times in their careers and they’ve done it with dedication and care for every PCA student!
Let’s honor them together next Thursday – make some noise when you drop off your student – honk your horn, post your sentiments on social and tag us, using the #myPCAteacherisasuperhero, and we’ll be sure to share. Thank you!

Parent Teacher Conferences, October 29th & 30th
We are thrilled to offer an opportunity for you to meet with your student’s teachers and want to announce the Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences. They are scheduled for Thursday, October 29th from 1-4pm, 5-7pm and Friday, October 30th from 9am-12pm. The conferences will all be virtual. In order for teachers to be prepared for your conference, please complete your sign-up choices by Monday, October 26th at 12 noon. Simply click on the link below, select your desired conferences, and then click “submit” to login or register (new user).
To give everyone equal opportunity, please limit your sign up to one slot per teacher, and be alert so you aren’t inadvertently “double booked” for your appointment.
You will receive an email reminder on October 28th of the conferences you selected. Zoom links for each teacher will be available on the PCA website the week of conferences.
Stay tuned for the Elementary Conference Sign up coming soon.

Health & Safety

Weekly Dashboard
We are thrilled to report that we welcomed back a very large number of our students who were out in quarantine. We love having our students on our campus in-person, and welcoming back 56 students and staff from quarantine made for a great week!

Updated Health Screening Protocol
Thank you all so much for your continued efforts to keep PCA safe by performing the daily student health screening before school each morning and keeping students home who are under the weather. In an effort to streamline all of our standards with the Wayne County Health Department, from this point forward, we will NO longer be using our in-house emoji decision tree. Instead, we will refer you directly to the Wayne County Health Department’s Screening Tool. We will also be using the Wayne County Screening tool for all staff, which they complete daily before coming to work.
Daily Health Screening for Students & Staff
Beginning this Monday, October 26, please use the Wayne County Health Department’s Screening Tool. You can view the document below and download it HERE. Please print and use this document each day to determine if your student should attend school.

Prayer Focus
John 14:27: Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
This week we praise God for being our peace! We do not need to be conformed to this world. God gives us not what this world gives. He is our One who provides wholeness of life or body, harmony, success and victory over our enemies.
This week we pray specifically for:
  • For our students: that they would know God, trust in Him, and have pure hearts
  • For God’s peace to flood our school as administrators, teachers and parents make hard decisions during an unprecedented time
  • For the safety and health of our student body and community at large
  • For Parent/Teacher conferences and connections between teachers and parents
Romans 15:13: May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Blessings,
Jennifer Hock & Sarah Batson, Moms in Prayer Coordinators
Calling all PCA and CBC Moms

Calling all PCA and Calvary Baptist moms! We would love for you to pray with us! We know the weather is cooling, so we are moving our prayer practice inside. Meet us at the most southeast door of the church building. (This door is opened from the inside only so we will meet you at the door.) We will have our bright pink signs helping you to locate the door. We will pray together on the 4th floor of the church building (masks and social distancing applies.) Join us each Monday at 8 am for focused prayer and petition over our school, students and staff. We would love to have you join us!

ELEMENTARY NEWS
Elementary Christmas Concert
We are excited about this year’s Elementary Christmas Concert, “Hotel Noel.” The students have been busy learning their songs and lines and can’t wait for you to see their efforts. Because of restrictions in auditorium use, our concert will look different this year. We are creating a film to distribute to all of our elementary families. In a few weeks, the students will begin filming, starting with all of the music. You will receive a letter explaining all of the details. For now, please know that your student will be asked to wear black pants or black skirt and black tights with black socks on the bottom. For the top, we are asking students to wear a red, green, or white PCA dress code shirt. Please look for more details to follow.

Winter Sports are Rapidly Approaching

Parents of High School Students: Our winter sports season is fast approaching. If you have a high school student that is interested in participating in boys basketball, girls basketball, boys bowling, girls bowling, competitive cheer, or wrestling (co-op with Lutheran Westland), please encourage them to check their school email to complete and submit our sports interest form as we try to anticipate numbers of athletes for specific teams. Thank you!

Do you miss being at home games?

Volunteer opportunities at our games are available for you! Contact Matt Windle, AD, via email at matthew.windle@plymouthchristian.org for more information.

Reminder!

Please note that all athletes must wear a face covering for all sports practices and contests except for cross country and tennis. This includes all off-season training for baseball and softball as well. If you do not have a mask, you cannot participate. If you are involved in any of these sports and have questions, please contact your coach. Please note that spectators are limited to two per player for all games. All home games in the Butler Gymnasium will be live streamed at NFHSnetwork.com. In addition, we hope to have all games on the varsity soccer field live streamed very soon.

Athletic Website & Schedule Alerts

Please follow our athletic website, www.plymouthchristianeagles.com, where you can view scores, schedules, articles and team/sport-specific updates. Enjoy keeping up on PCA sports! When you are on our PCA Eagles Home Page, be sure to sign up for VNN Alerts for your team. Click on ‘Sign Up For Alerts’ located just above the purple banner on the upper right side of our PCA Eagles home page or click on this link https://alerts.getvnn.com/#/profile/alerts. Remember to check your student’s online game schedule frequently as changes often occur during their season.

Physicals & Forms

If you have a student that is interested in participating in a PCA sport, he or she must have a current, MHSAA physical and our Sports Participation form on file in the Athletic Office BEFORE they can participate in tryouts, practices, or games. Forms are online at our school website HERE (scroll to the athletic tab), in the Secondary Office, and Athletic Office. A physical dated April 15, 2020 or after is considered a current physical and is good for the current school year until April 15, 2021. NOTE: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, if your student had a current physical for the 2019-20 school year, (dated 04-15-2019 or after) the MHSAA is allowing that physical to be valid for this school year. If this applies to your student, you must complete the 2020-21 MHSAA Sports Health Questionnaire and turn it in to the Athletic Dept.

Athletic Team Practice/Game

If the practice or game is not taking place right after school (starting by 3:20pm), students must report to the Study Table room, or be meeting with their teacher, in order to remain on campus. Thank you for your help with this!

EAGLE FINE ARTS
Greetings Fellow PCA Families,

It is with great excitement and enthusiasm that we embark on the new school year, one that will be undoubtedly unique in its challenges as well as unique with opportunities to be grateful for His many provisions. Along with the Fine Arts Department, the Fine Arts Boosters are busy planning and adapting to ensure that each and every student has the ability to continue to receive not only the critical aspects of fine arts in education but to thrive in a space of creativity, expression and art skills learning.

The old cliche that says, “The show must go on!” couldn’t be more fitting right now. The staff has put great efforts into ensuring that the students will continue to have performances whether a live audience is a reality or not. Plans for recording, editing and distribution of student performances are well underway as is scheduling of events in smaller blocks to enable the students to continue to have all of the experiences to which they have become accustomed. Competitions and adjudicated events are being planned with virtual participation in mind. Together, we are seeking opportunities for “master class” events to take the place of some of the field trips and activities that we aren’t able to participate in like we have in previous years.

Despite the challenges that we are facing and the adjustments that need to be made, our calendar of events and student experience opportunities remain full and robust! Our Fine Arts Booster Board is meeting virtually on the first Monday of each month at 7:00 pm. We welcome new members in each meeting and would be grateful for any investment of time and talents that you can provide. Please consider joining our boosters as we pray for and support the arts at PCA. You can reach out to Carolyn Kedney with any questions and if you are interested in joining the booster meetings.

Lastly, our Patron Program is underway. As in previous years we are ecstatic to have and to grow the list of Fine Arts Patrons at PCA. Patron levels start at just $50 which receives an acknowledgement in event programs. As giving levels increase so do Patron benefits, including larger spaces for acknowledgements for your business or family, reserved seating at events such as the spring musical, and more! Acknowledgements will be included in recorded event media for virtual events in lieu of printed programs. As the outlook for some of our other fundraising activities such as concessions, Cookie Extravaganza and our Fine Arts Gala remains uncertain, continuation and building our Patron program is even more critical. Can’t find that e-mail with the Patron program information? You can become a Patron online right on PCA’s website; click HERE to learn more!

Thank you for your continued support for PCA Arts!
Sincerely,
Alicia Allen
Fine Arts Booster Board President
