We’ve Got our Turkeys!

Over the past two weeks, Plymouth Christian Academy has been involved in a unique contest to raise funds for Puerto Rico. The destruction in Puerto Rico has been close to PCA’s heart since one of our staff members, Netty Melendez, has family there and has shared their first-hand accounts of the tragedy that has struck the island. The PCA National Honor Society students felt they needed to do something to raise funds for Puerto Rico and that desire led to the PCA “Turkey” Contest. Collection cans were placed outside classrooms, preschool through 12th grade, including our elementary and secondary principals, Ryan Batson and Caryn Huntsman. Staff and students “voted” for the person who would end up dressed in the turkey costume by placing money in their cans. The person with the most money at the end of the contest would wear the turkey costume for an entire day. There are two winners of this special honor, one for elementary and one for secondary. PCA students had a blast “voting” and we are happy to announce that the winner of the elementary contest is 6th-grade teacher, Ashley Frey, and the winner of the secondary contest is middle school teacher, Nathan Yates.
This Wednesday in our Thanksgiving Chapel, we will announce the total amount of funds raised and present that check to Mrs. Melendez and members of her extended family who are staying with her due to the destruction in Puerto Rico. Thanks to all who participated in this unique way to raise money for a very worthy cause. Special thanks to Mrs. Frey & Mr. Yates for their amazing sense of humor and willingness to be the “Turkey” for the day!
