As a former elementary teacher, I love to teach reading. There is nothing better than hearing a student read fluently with understanding. I am passionate about literacy and am committed to ensuring that our students have the tools they need to quickly become fully proficient readers. A student who is a confident reader can take in God’s word by reading their Bible and defend what they read. This Bible verse comes to mind, “Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.” (Revelations 1:3 ESV)

An initiative that I am training the elementary teachers on is a reading structure called the Daily 5. The purpose of the Daily 5 is to engage students in meaningful independent reading, reading with a partner, work with writing, listening to reading and word work. The teacher works with small groups of students and develops individualized instructional goals. It is a powerful method because it provides one-on-one tailored instruction to meet the needs of each individual student. This is a PCA difference. I am praying for you and your reader.
