Get Ready to SHINE!

PCA families and friends,
We are thrilled to announce Project SHINE 2017! Many PCA families have been part of Project SHINE since it’s beginning in 2010 and many will be taking part for the first time this year. Whether it’s your 1st or 8th year, welcome to SHINE! We hope this blog provides you with some inspiration about this project and ignites your passion for Project SHINE.

Plymouth Christian Academy is committed to excellent academics taught within a Biblical framework and service to others is an integral part of this philosophy. The command from the Bible is clear: “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” I Peter 4:10

On April 24-28, PCA will launch its 8th Annual Project SHINE Servathon (Serving Him in Neighborhoods Everywhere). Project SHINE is SO much more than a one-week event at PCA. The Christian character training that students receive is what sets PCA apart from other schools. Project SHINE instills in all of us a lifelong passion to serve others and share the hope of Jesus Christ. It is such an exciting time in the life of our school. Every teacher, staff member, and student will serve in some way to minister to those in need. From preschoolers to teens, our students will be actively showing the love of Jesus in tangible ways.

The following are samples of some organizations we’ll be serving this year:

    Penrickton Center for Blind Children
    Salvation Army, Plymouth
    Waltonwood Senior Center
    Judson Center
    Bottomless Toy Chest
    Starfish Family Services
    Vista Maria
    Forgotten Harvest
    John Dingell VA Hospital Detroit
    ReStore Habitat for Humanity
    Detroit Rescue Mission
    Blessings Bags for Bolivia

Project SHINE functions similar to a typical “-thon” fundraiser. Students and staff members raise support for their service. However, unlike a typical walkathon where students get pledges in support of the number of laps they walk, with our Servathon, students carry out meaningful service that impacts both themselves and others. Project SHINE gifts help fund critical needs at PCA to support our mission of equipping our young people to impact their world for Christ.

You should have received the Project SHINE packet that was mailed or sent home in your student’s backpack this past week. Please join us in completing just (5) letters this year and returning them in your Project SHINE packet by Tuesday, April 11. Remember, you can always sponsor your own student(s). Please be in prayer about the SHINE letters you are preparing over spring break. Questions? Please email us at

God has already begun to bless this program through the many sponsorships that have already been received. SHINE sponsorships not only benefit PCA students, but also help us underwrite the materials we need for the service projects (fleece blanket material, pillow cases, cans of food, hygiene items, etc.). We are so grateful that God is using our school in this way to help spread the Gospel!

We invite you to watch the SHINE 2016 video HERE to gain a greater understanding of the depth of Project SHINE! We thank you in advance for all that you will do to impact our students and our community through Project SHINE!

Serving Him Together,
Caryn Huntsman, Superintendent & Secondary Principal
Beth Larabee, Director of Advancement & SHINE Coordinator
Peggy Paulson, Director of Communications & SHINE Coordinator
