An Encouraging Word

“Training our children to pay attention is a tough job.
Without focus on what people are saying, we won’t hear or
learn. As parents, we can model paying attention by
listening to God’s Word and obeying it. In Zechariah 1:1-6,
we see the Lord calling to Israel to pay attention to Him
and to obey Him. God speaks to us today through His Word
and through people. “God is speaking – are we paying
attention? Of course, many people and many organizations
are trying to get our attention: political candidates seeking
our votes, businesses urging us to use their products or
services, spokespersons for a variety of religious and
philosophical viewpoints. We must be able, at times, to
block out these voices so that we can hear God’s Word and
respond to His bidding. Let us thank God for the power to
determine to what or to whom we should give our attention.
Let us pray that we may learn to ‘fine-tune’ our attention so
that God’s message can come through clearly.” As we learn
to listen to God through His Word, we can better train our
children to recognize truth from God.
