An Encouraging Word

Romans 16:19 “But I want you to be wise as to what is good and innocent as to what is evil.”
Helping our children keep their minds and hearts pure is a full-time job for us as parents. One of the ways we can support our children is overseeing their use of social media and networking. This is a huge job and not for the faint of heart! As my children were growing up, my husband and I worked very hard to keep up with friends, music, and information they watched on television. We did not deal with texting, iPhones, Facebook and all of the various forms of social media available now. Here are some rules I found on ProtectKids, Rules ‘N Tools for Social Networking sites:
- Teach your children to never give out personal information over the Internet.
- Pay attention to online photos: know the type of photos your child is posting online.
- Know your child’s online activities and friends.
- Instruct your child to never plan a face to face meeting.
- Supervise computer use.
Many of the sites our students are on explicitly explain the rules of usage as ages 13 and up. I would suggest 13 may still be too young. I will be praying for you as you enjoy the technology available while discerning how you as a parent are going to protect your child’s heart and mind.
I am praying for you!
Love, Mrs. Huntsman
