Eagles News – Week of August 31-September 4
By: WebmasterDate: Aug 28, 2020 Tags: Eagle News
Dear Plymouth Christian Family,
What a wonderful start it’s been to our 2020-2021 school year! I’m honored to be part of a community that has remained unified at a time in our world when so many are divided. We desire to be light in a dark world and show others who Jesus is. This has taken all of us, all together, listening to each other and it is such a testimony to the hand of God on our school. Happy first week! We are praying for you.
During our time off-campus, we introduced the electronic Eagle Newsletter. Now that we are back to school, we are working to streamline our weekly communications, and have decided to continue with the electronic weekly Eagle News newsletter. You’ll find this newsletter divided into sections; All-School News, Elementary News, & Secondary News. You’ll also find links throughout this email to dig deeper into items that apply to you.
It’s such a joy to be together again on campus. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Educating for Eternity,
Caryn Huntsman, Superintendent

South Redford Shared Time
You may not be aware, but we have had an amazing relationship with the South Redford School District for a Shared Time Program for the past several years. According to michiganvirtual.org, “Shared time services is a State of Michigan program that allows public schools to provide services to private schools at no cost to the private school in the non-core elective areas.” In some schools that may mean that public school teachers actually teach at the private school. In our case, it means that our non-core teachers are employed by both PCA and South Redford for the courses they teach. While we take part in this program with South Redford, we do want to assure you that as a private Christian school, we have full control over our curriculum and all aspects of the program. This allows us to maintain the delivery of education through a biblical worldview without compromise. This program allows us to provide your students with the best options for electives while saving money for our school.
As we plan for the coming year, please know that our goal is to remain in-person, on campus for those who have selected this model. Only in the case of the state moving back to Phase 3 would we move to an all-online model. However, for planning purposes this year, South Redford is requesting that all families to fill out the following parental consent form in the event that we do move back to Phase 3. Questions? Please contact Caryn Huntsman at email@example.com. Thank you!

This week we proclaim that God is our GUARD. He protects us from harm, keeps watch over us, and keeps us secure. As school opened this week, we have seen God guarding PCA in countless ways. We are so grateful for that and we pray He continues to guard us. We can find security knowing that our school family is protected by the Almighty!
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1
“He guards the lives of His faithful ones.” Psalm 97:10
School Prayer Requests:
- May God protect the health of our students and staff
- May students and teachers adjust quickly to the start of a new school year
- May our whole PCA family keep eyes fixed on Jesus as we walk through these challenging times
- May PCA experience the unity that only Christ can bring

Health & Safety
Huge shout-out to every single student, staff, and faculty member who pulled together as a team this week to keep us safe and #protecttheflock! We are so grateful for your compliance with the new guidelines and rules that we have put in place. We hope you enjoy Swoopie’s friendly tips on how to properly wear those masks!
We are pleased to announce that Peggy Paulson will serve as PCA’s COVID Point of Contact. In addition to working at PCA in Marketing & Communications, Peggy is a registered nurse with 27 years of hospital experience. She led the PCA Health and Safety committee throughout the past several months. Since we are still learning about COVID-19 and schools are just beginning to open, we know that we need to be flexible and willing to pivot for best practices. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Mrs. Paulson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Some simple reminders…
- Keep reminding your students about the importance of wearing their masks correctly and keeping their distance from others.
- Send an extra mask or two in their backpack and for their locker.
- During Phase 4, we have to restrict building visitors. Parents will not be allowed in our buildings until further notice. In extenuating circumstances, they can receive pre-approval from Mrs. Caryn Huntsman.
- Meals, snacks & beverages brought from home cannot be shared and must only be handled by the student.
- Food Services will offer lunch items that follow CDC guidelines such as serving individually wrapped or pre-packaged food items. Napkins and silverware are also individually wrapped.

Eagles at Home
We deeply value every student and family at Plymouth Christian and even through these unique circumstances, we are connected in ways we never could have dreamed possible. Positive classroom community is happening from our campus to yours at home. A huge shout out to our Eagles At Home students! It’s great seeing you!
We are grateful to our faculty and staff who are making Eagles at Home (EAH) possible. Special shout-out to the EAH teacher & staff liaisons Bethany Romisch (K-2nd grade), Jasmine Paul (3-4th grade), Ashley Frey (5-6th grade), and Dan Hammar (7-12th grade).
We are so thankful for the feedback that we’ve received so far. Thank you, Renee Kurtycz, for allowing us to share the following!
“I wanted to take a minute and just tell you how absolutely AMAZING the team has done with the Eagles at Home! Honestly, I cannot say enough! The communication from the beginning has been wonderful! The first day was seamless as the process for logging on and participating in class was so easy. The teachers have gone above and beyond to make the kids feel 100% a part of the class, even taking the computer outside at one point while they were working on a project. The kids have been on for three days now and it is just as if they are in the classroom, raising their hands and being called on, participation, conversation, etc. I’m just so thankful for all your hard work and your leadership!”
Purple Flag Dismissal
What is it?
Purple Flag Dismissal will take place when inclement weather does not allow for our elementary students to be dismissed outside at the car line. Previously, this was known as Red Flag Dismissal, but this new process now replaces that.
How will you know that it’s a Purple Flag Dismissal Day?
You will be informed of Purple Flag Dismissal through text and phone calls. Please make sure that all cell phone numbers that you want to receive texts are properly registered with the school offices.
To help you understand this new protocol, Mr. Batson created the following video. Questions? Please let him know! firstname.lastname@example.org
Mr. Murray’s Day
Due to the uncertain weather for the coming week, we are waiting until Monday to make the announcement about what day we will be holding Mr. Murray’s Day! Stay tuned!
Did you know that PCA has a separate athletic website where you can access scores, articles, and team specifics? Please visit plymouthchristianeagles.com to check it out! If you have a student on an athletic team, please visit this website for the most updated schedules regularly because all game information is subject to change at any time on a daily basis. When you are on our PCA Eagles Home Page, be sure to sign up for VNN Alerts for your team. Click on ‘Sign Up For Alerts’ located just above the purple banner on the upper right side of our PCA Eagles home page or click on this link: https://alerts.getvnn.com/#/profile/alerts.
Fall Sports News: Middle School (MS) Fall Sports: Practice information for MS Boys Soccer; 6th, 7th, & 8th Girls Volleyball; and Boys and Girls Cross Country is pending while we await updated guidance from the governor’s office. An email with MS sports information will be sent as soon as we have details in place.
Physicals & Forms: If you have a student that is interested in participating in a PCA sport, he or she must have a current, MHSAA physical and our Sports Participation form on file in the Athletic Office BEFORE they can participate in tryouts, practices, or games. Forms are online at our school website HERE (scroll to the athletic tab), in the Secondary Office, and Athletic Office. A physical dated April 15, 2020 or after is considered a current physical and is good for the current school year until April 15, 2021. NOTE: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, if your student had a current physical for the 2019-20 school year, (dated 04-15-2019 or after) the MHSAA is allowing that physical to be valid for this school year. If this applies to your student, you must complete the 2020-21 MHSAA Sports Health Questionnaire and turn it into the Athletic Dept.
Athletic Team Practice/Game: If the practice or game is not taking place right after school (starting by 3:20pm), students must report to the Study Table room, or be meeting with their teacher, in order to remain on campus. Thank you for your help with this!
