Mark 10:45, “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (ESV)
Plymouth Christian Academy is committed to excellent academics taught within a Biblical framework and service to others is an integral part of this philosophy. The command from the Bible is clear: “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” I Peter 4:10
During the week of October 9-13, PCA will launch its 9th Annual Project SHINE Servathon (Serving Him in Neighborhoods Everywhere). Project SHINE is SO much more than a one-week event at PCA. The Christian character training that students receive is what sets PCA apart from other schools. Project SHINE instills in all of us a lifelong passion to serve others and share the hope of Jesus Christ. It is such an exciting time in the life of our school. Every teacher, staff member, and student will serve in some way to minister to those in need. From preschoolers to teens, our students will be actively showing the love of Jesus in tangible ways.
The following are a few of the organizations we’ll be serving this year:
Salvation Army, Plymouth
Waltonwood Senior Center
Bottomless Toy Chest
Starfish Family Services
Detroit Rescue Mission
Bandages for Ghana
Capuchin’s Earthworks Garden
Tiny Houses, Detroit
Humane Society of Michigan
Project SHINE functions similar to a typical “-thon” fundraiser. Students and staff members raise support for their service. However, unlike a typical walkathon where students get pledges in support of the number of laps they walk, with our Servathon, students carry out meaningful service that impacts both themselves and others. Project SHINE gifts help fund critical needs at PCA to support our mission of equipping our young people to impact their world for Christ. PCA families have options for the way they want to support Project SHINE. Through our letter-writing program, the cost to each family is extremely minimal; we only ask that you place stamps on your letters. The other option to provide a pledge for your own child(ren) is a popular option that many families select. Some families do a bit of both. We are grateful for whatever way your family decides to support SHINE! Click HERE to download the Family Commitment Page.
Once you have indicated your desired way to support, we will send home the SHINE letters, which you will address for family and friends. Those letters are returned to school and mailed out from PCA. Questions about the letters or Project SHINE? Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Special thanks to the 2017 Project SHINE Sponsors! Your support has allowed PCA students to serve across metro Detroit and the world!
