NORTHRIDGE CHURCH ORPHAN CARE
Served by 1st grade 2011 Servathon
49555 N.Territorial Rd?Plymouth, MI 48170?734.414.7777?
http://northridge-church.com/outreach-opportunities/orphan-care/
There are 19,000 children currently in the state of Michigan’s Foster Care system and 6,000 of these children are available right now for adoption. It is our goal to reduce that number and offer care and hope to the children in Foster Care. God clearly calls His church to be the ones who care for orphans and NorthRidge has begun a journey to engage these children in many different ways, as well as share with them the ultimate hope we have in Christ.
What can you do?
-
Pray. Foster Care and Adoptive Families need you to pray for them and for the children they are welcoming into their homes. James 5:16
-
Take Action. Even the smallest act can mean a lot to a child that is in need of a home. Providing a duffel bag or even a teddy bear for a child that has just been removed from their home can give a child a sense of value. James 1:22
-
Step Up. There are many different ways that you can impact a child’s life. Consider becoming a foster parent, an adoptive parent, or a mentor/tutor. Psalms 68:5-6
Where can you start?
The Orphan Care team here at NorthRidge has identified three areas you can begin to help orphans in our community.
-
Immediate Needs. When a child is removed from their home, they leave with nothing. To help the transition we provide duffel bags that include necessities and some comfort items (i.e. teddy bear). For the list of items and to find out the scheduled drop off dates click here
Become a Mentor/Tutor. We partner with a local residential facility for hurting girls who are in great need of women mentors and women or men tutors. To learn more about becoming a mentor or tutor click here

VISTA MARIA
Served by the Sophomore Class 2011 Servathon
http://www.vistamaria.org/index.php
20651 West Warren Avenue
Dearborn Hts, MI 48127
313-271-3050
Responding to an appeal from Bishop Caspar Henry Borgess in 1883, five Sisters of the Good Shepherd arrived in downtown Detroit to the Ward Mansion on Fort Street to establish their first home. The industrial revolution brought progress and success to the area but left thousands of young girls and women behind, most of them living and working in desperate conditions. By the turn of the century, 33 Sisters were caring for more than 200 girls and young women in their facility.
Over the next 30 years, the House of the Good Shepherd continued to expand services to the ever-growing number of young women it served. In the late 1930s, the Sisters and the Salvation Army ran a joint fund-raising campaign called Open Your Heart, and successfully raised money for constructing new buildings, but still lacked property on which to expand. Then a miracle happened. After the Sisters prayed a novena for nine days, a representative of Henry and Clara B. Ford arrived at their door. He announced that the Ford family wished to give the Sisters 50 acres of land on West Warren Avenue in Dearborn Heights.
The mission of Vista Maria is to heal Michigan’s victimized girls and women with best-practice treatment programs designed to meet their unique needs.
Their staff knows that healing takes place in connection with others. Thus, their goal is to create an environment in which healing can occur. Each girl is given love, affection, and someone to talk with her. For information on how you can volunteer, follow the link: http://www.vistamaria.org/template.php?pid=5

GLOBAL
VOICE OF THE MARTYRS
The Voice of the Martyrs is a non-profit, inter-denominational Christian organization dedicated to assisting the persecuted church worldwide. VOM was founded in 1967 by Pastor Richard Wurmbrand, who was imprisoned 14 years in Communist Romania for his faith in Christ. His wife, Sabina, was imprisoned for three years. In the 1960s, Richard, Sabina, and their son, Mihai, were ransomed out of Romania and came to the United States. Through their travels, the Wurmbrands spread the message of the atrocities that Christians face in restricted nations, while establishing a network of offices dedicated to assisting the persecuted church. The Voice of the Martyrs continues in this mission around the world today through the following main purposes:
-
To encourage and empower Christians to fulfill the Great Commission in areas of the world where they are persecuted for their involvement in propagating the gospel of Jesus Christ. We accomplish this by providing Bibles, literature, radio broadcasts, medical assistance, and other forms of aid.
-
To give relief to the families of Christian martyrs in these areas of the world.
-
To equip local Christians to love and win to Christ their enemies who are opposed to the gospel in countries where believers are actively persecuted for their Christian witness.
-
To undertake projects of encouragement, helping believers rebuild their lives and Christian witness in countries that have formerly suffered Communist oppression.

SAMARITAN’S PURSE
Served by All School Service Project 2010
Samaritan's Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan's Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God's love through His Son, Jesus Christ. The organization serves the Church worldwide to promote the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
The story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37) gives a clear picture of God's desire for us to help those in desperate need wherever we find them. After describing how the Samaritan rescued a hurting man whom others had passed by, Jesus told His hearers, "Go and do likewise."
PCA is already partnering with Samaritan’s Purse through Operation Christmas Child. To learn about more ways that you can partner with them, visit www.samaritanspurse.org
