Elementary Library Procedures
The library is open for student use from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, except Wednesday when it closes at 3:00pm. Grades K-6 go to the library on a regular basis. The number of books a student may check out will be determined by grade:
K-1st grade 1 book at a time
2nd grade 2 books at a time
3rd grade 3 books at a time
4th-12th grade 4 books at a time
Before a K-1st grader will be allowed to check out another book, the one he/she already has must be returned. We rarely charge any fines for overdue books. However, if you should receive a letter telling of a long overdue book, a $1.00 fine will be due when the book is returned. The library record will not be clear until the fine is paid. If a book is lost or damaged beyond repair, the student/parent must pay for a replacement copy. We will refund your money within a year’s time if the book is found in good condition.
For your convenience, a library drop box is located in the lower elementary hall. Also, books may be returned directly to the library during the day. Your cooperation in the prompt return of all borrowed library books will be greatly appreciated.
Accelerated Reader Program
Accelerated Reader is a computerized reading reward program where students read books on an approved Accelerated Reader list and can take computerized tests to see how much material they have retained. Rewards for tests passed are provided by our librarian, Ms. Fontaine, in the MediaCenter.
-
The daily cut off time to take tests is 3:00 p.m.
-
Parents are not permitted to help with tests.
-
Tests may be taken in the classroom or Media Center. Please contact Ms. Fontaine with any questions.
-
Students in 3rd through 6th grades must read the books on their own. Students may not listen to books on tape.
-
Parents may read aloud to students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade.
